Los Cardones National Park
The Cardones National Park: Cardones is located in the middle of Salta. The environment is composed by hills and ravines surrounding the Puna. Although the climate is mostly arid, there are some areas with other climates depending on the mountain’s weather. Easy to access, must take Provincial Route Nº 33 from Salta with direction to Cachi, which crosses a part of the National Park.
Services inside the park are not yet organized, but the two main attractions are constituted by the “Cardones” and the beautiful landscapes of the Enchanted Valley “Valle Encantado”. “Cardones” look like enormous cactus are useful when it comes to building ranches, corral posts and even musical drums. They take more than 40 years to give their first flower, and many of the small sprouts die due to the effect of the frosts, and that’s why is so important to protect this specie. The Enchanted Valley, a beautiful canyon hidden between the red hills, shows a variety of views, originated by the erosion. A perfect spot to take photographs and make long walks while observing the archeological ruins along with the cave paintings kept on some mysterious mountains.
